Just Because I am 6'3". Do I Really Need a 500 lb Recliner?
At Jones Glass and Decorating Center we often get calls from men who are 6'2", 6'3", or 6'4" asking the same question: Do I really need a 500 lb capacity recliner just because I am tall?
The honest answer is no __not always. Height and weight capacity are two different things. The more important questions are how long the chair is when fully reclined and whether you mind if your feet hang over the end of the footrest.
Height vs. Weight Capacity
Being tall mainly affects the length of the chair and how well your legs are supported when reclined.
Weight capacity is about how much the frame, mechanism, and springs can safely support over years of daily use. A man who is 6'2" or 6'3" and of average weight may be perfectly comfortable in a quality 350 lb King of Comfort recliner. On the Stallion 500 lb recliner, the measurement from the back of the seat to the front of the footrest is 43 inches. This longer design allows most men up to 6'4" to keep their heels on the footrest when fully reclined.
On the shorter 350 lb chairs, a man who is 6'4" will often find his feet hanging about 4 inches over the end of the footrest. Some men do not mind this at all.
